Daler Singh, commonly known as Daler Mehndi, is an Indian singer, author, songwriter, record producer, and was born on August 18, 1967. Not only did he play a part in setting Indian pop music apart from Bollywood, but he also made Bhangra a worldwide hit. What made him most famous were his dance tunes, long flowing robes, turban, and voice.


Daler Mehndi agreed to a three-year, three-album deal with Magnasound Records. Bolo Ta Ra Ra, his debut album, became a huge hit in 1995, selling over 20 million copies and propelling him to mainstream stardom. In the same year, Mehndi made his Bollywood debut, writing and delivering the well-known song Na Na Na Re for the movie Mrityudata, in which he starred with the renowned Amitabh Bachchan. In India, the music album for the movie sold 1.5 million copies.

He made his music video debut with Tunak Tunak Tun in 1998, breaking records with a budget of Rs. 25 million (about equivalent to Rs. 113 million ($1.08 million) after inflation. Along with becoming a worldwide hit, the song and video made Mehndi a household name in India. Mehndi released his debut album Ek Dana in 2000 as a result of a partnership with TIPS Music. His late father Ajmer Singh Chandan was a talented farmer and musician, while his mother Balbir Kaur was a successful state-level fighter. He went back to India in 1991 and started his band. He first demonstrated his talent by singing ghazals that were influenced by the poetry of authors such as Firaq Gorakhpuri and Qateel Shifai.

Taranpreet Kaur is the wife of Daler Mehndi, who was previously married to Amarjeet Mehndi. Notably, Navraj Hans, the son of well-known Punjabi musician Hans Raj Hans, is married to his daughter Ajit Kaur Mehndi. In 2016, Gurdeep Mehndi married NRI model Jessica Singh. The Mehndi surname pays homage to the well-known vocalist Pervez Mehndi, whose songs Daler frequently covered and was a great fan of. His brother decided to give him the nickname Daler Mehndi.
